Tursday, April 8

In the land where the “h” is silent, it is apparently outright ignored. Therefore, today is “Tursday” and it also happens to be son Ryan's tirty-first birtday. So Happy Birtday, Ryan!

We took a walking tour of Kinsale to learn the history and see the interesting sites from our guide, Dermot Ryan. Dermot is a retired educator and native of Kinsale, who has the colorful history of this beautiful port town down to an interesting and entertaining art form.

We grabbed a light lunch and then went on a harbor tour of Kinsale Harbor. The weather has really shaped up and today was a very sunny day. Even so, when you get out on a boat in the harbor, with the breezes, it's chilly and we needed all the clothes we had. Bev bought a beautiful wool hooded sweater last night, which she vows she will live in for the indefinite future. She was all hooded up on our harbor cruise! One of the things pointed out to us on the cruise was a walking path called the Scilly walking tour. Scilly is the little part of Kinsale across the harbor from Kinsale, but within easy walking distance from Kinsale proper. So after the cruise, we walked over there, and walked on the Scilly path. It was beautiful, especially with the nice sunny weather.

Tonight we had a nice seafood meal at Blu, located in the Blue Harbor Hotel. Blu was recommended to us by our friends, Dan and Dot O'Connor, who were here in Kinsale last fall. After dinner we went to the bar to listen to the Niall McCabe Experience band, which plays there every Thursday. The four guys are from the area, although the lead guitarist is from Scotland. They played a lot of American blues and pop music and they were excellent! We have sure heard some great music on sabbatical! How much better can that be?
